Dawn of the Zeds (Third edition): New Player Blues Expansion
Enjoying playing this game as a family. We wish they had more with this level of complexity.
There’s a simple new variation available in this box, but you can play it without the new piece. I was really hoping there would be new artwork like with the black vs red boxes of Skull & Roses. Instead, there’s a subtle variation on the same sets. It’s enough that you could combine red & black for more players without much confusion, but it’s much less satisfying. If you don’t have the black box of Skull, it’s an excellent game to enjoy!
We use the Simmental expansion every game. The way the card holders are designed is such that there is a slot for all the Simmental cards (2, 4, and 5) with sleeves as well as a separate slot for the rest of the cattle cards with sleeves. Those work well. However, because we use the Simmental expansion every game, we like to put it away with the 2 strength Simmentals in the market deck, ready to go for next game. This causes the market deck to be too tall for its holder and things don't pack quite right. Small issue only. Otherwise it really helps set up and is lovely to have.
This is a great expansion, but the player count listed on the cover is a little misleading. You may only play with 1-4 players if you only have this expansion (and the base game). You will need to have the Cold Waters expansion to play with 5 players. This expansion doesn’t come with the extra player components.
