Catacombs is an action/dexterity-based adventure board game. One player controls the Overseer, controlling the monsters of the catacombs; the other player(s) control the four heroes who cooperatively try to defeat the monsters and eventually the Catacomb Lord. Each of the heroes has special abilities that must also be used effectively if they are to prevail.

The main mechanism of Catacombs is for the players to flick wooden discs representing the monsters and the heroes. Contact with an opposing piece inflicts damage, but missiles, spells, and other special abilities can cause other effects. When all of the monsters of a room have been cleared, the heroes can move further into the catacomb. Items and equipment upgrades can be purchased from the Merchant with gold taken from fallen monsters. The Catacomb Lord is the final danger that the heroes must defeat to win the game; conversely, the Overseer wins if all of the heroes are defeated. The game is designed for quick set-up and fast play within 30 to 60 minutes.

Fun Dexterity Dungeon Crawler

Lots of fun, silly at times (I mean you can play as a chicken 🐓 or flick around a monstrous gelatinous cube). The game rewards good strategy and skill in flicking discs. Low level of randomness. Dripping in theme.

Like a sporting event. Hilarious when someone misses a sure shot or makes an impossible one!

Difficulty highly adjustable. I find it most fun if person playing as the monsters takes a traditional game master role and ensures the others players are there to have a fair challenge, and not necessarily tries to utterly destroy them. Of course the better the hero players are the more difficult you can make it for them.

I was worried this would be a little too simple - turns out that there are lots of thematic rules that make this game very interesting. There is good variety in monsters and abilities and the heroes are fun.

My two teens and one child enjoy this game with me. A great family game for us, though maybe a little complicated for families that don’t play a lot of games.

Obviously if you hate dexterity games and flicking discs this is not for you.

A Beer and Pretzels Dungeon Crawl

For fans of dexterity or flicking games : this one is a must. This box contains all kinds of monsters and items and special abilities that add to this game’s replayability.

I would recommend this only at two players though.

Fun Game

I got this game to try something different. It's a dexterity game where you flick different wooden pucks at other (larger) wooden pucks. The premise is fun. I like that it comes with a playing surface and borders to help keep everything on the table. I preferred it to other games with similar premises such as Flick 'Em Up. I found it had a bit of a learning curve and you do end up checking the rulebook a lot when it comes to different actions.

The Rolls Royce of dexterity games.

Playable with gamers of all ages (and everybody seems to love it). The difficulty can be scaled to become whatever you want it to be, and as the dungeon master, you'll have to be very gentle with new players. My only complaint is that every game requires at least some fumbling around through the index of the rulebook to figure out how different effects work.
