Shadows in Kyoto is a two-player abstract game based with the background of Hanamikoji in which players take control of the Oniwaban, a group of undercover spies, secretly protecting the Shogun, or an intelligence agency of the Meiji Government, funding with the advanced technology of the Western Industrial Revolution.

As the commanders, the players must secretly gather key intelligence from the opponent while protecting their own interests. Through movements, conflicts, and tactics, players have three different paths to victory:
1). Capture 2 enemy agents who possess real intelligence.
2). Let your opponent captures 3 agents of your own who possess fake intelligence.
3). Succeed in the escape of 1 agent of your own who possesses real intelligence.

Would make for a good lunch time game.

The Good:
Lovely anime style artwork, good for short a game with great replay value, simple stratego-like gameplay with variable powers trying to out guess where opponent agents are located, (like finding the flag in stratego). simple gameplay leaving players wanting rematch.

The Bad:
Small components that are good for a travelling game but may prove difficult to see and/or handle for some.

Way too expensive

Not the store’s fault, but it’s blatantly obvious this game was designed so that it is best experienced with this deluxified add-on.
The retail version feels like it’s incomplete.

Having said that, the lids don’t snap shut properly, some of the minis were bent.

Almost there

These would be perfect if the snapped on to the miniature base - which they do not. It's fine while battling in one room but if the Intruder changes rooms it is less ideal - still better than moving individual hit markers, just not as good as it would be if they clipped to the minis.

Lots of fun/nostalgia

Tons of classic cards and fun combinations. Does not disappoint.

Enjoyable

This is a really nice little game. Feels different every time you play it.

Amazing!

Long setup, big table presence and long gameplay usually means I won't get the game out often.... but I really don't care when the game is as good and fun to play as Andromed'as Edge. The Expansion with the solo mode make it stay on the table for weeks, to play over and over trying different faction against different Automas (Unity the name). Don't be scared by this big game, the gameplay is very intuitive and satisfying, and the iconography is perfect.

Only cons for me are "some components choices" designers made when making the retail and delux versions. Some are goos in both, some are bad in both.
