"This world's not big enough for all of us, so it's time you step aside to make room for me."

That's the spirit of Philippe Keyaerts' award-winning Small World, and the 2011 release Small World Underground is a standalone game that keeps that spirit intact, while putting a new spin on the game play.

Small World Underground includes 15 fantasy-themed races of creatures along with 21 special powers. Each player will control several creature/power combinations over the course of the game – spending points to draft these combinations – and will use those creatures to claim control of various subterranean locations. Some locations hold relics or are designated as "places of power", and monsters must first be conquered before a player can claim these special benefits. At the end of each turn, a player scores points for the regions he holds, and the player with the most points at game end wins.

Small World Underground is playable on its own, but can be combined with other Small World releases. The publisher recommends that players be familiar with Small World before playingSmall World Underground.

One of the best of the Small World games

Until Small World of Warcraft came out, this was easily the best Small World game. Without a modular map and some other additions, this game comes off as just a "better" version of the original game. Combined with the overworld map from the original game, this is a fantastic experience. I've played SW so much so I don't get to experience this much anymore but I love the additions of items and the various powers in this version. If you don't have ANY version of SW and want a great edition to keep for years and years, I highly recommend this one or Small World of Warcraft.

Small World Underground

I was really excited for this game! Unfortunately it was just not good for us as we nearly always play just two players. This game SAYS it can play with two players but I would highly recommend that you don't. This game would probably play better with at least 3, probably best with four honestly. As a two player game it just seemed very pointless. We were really disappointed as we wanted to love it so bad. I don't want to rate it too low though, as I truly think it would be a great game with more people, just not for 2 imo. We've passed it along to people who will hopefully get much more joy from it!!
