In Troyes, recreate four centuries of history of this famous city of the Champagne region of France. Each player manages their segment of the population (represented by a horde of dice) and their hand of cards, which represent the three primary domains of the city: religious, military, and civil. Players can also offer cash to their opponents' populace in order to get a little moonlighting out of them—anything for more fame!

Make your underlings:

  • work on the cathedral
  • combat misfortune
  • bustle about the city
  • and other such tasks that are below your family's stature

Decent

I'll be honest-its the box cover art that drew me in. Not a terrible game I agree its a little dry, theme wise. I've only played 2P so I can't say a whole lot. There are interesting choices and lots of combos to discover. I'll still play it once in a while but it's not a game I'll jump up to play often.

Not a “dice” game

While you do roll dice, you can change your dice, or buy the other players’ dice (including neutral player) and can find uses for lower numbered dice, so rolling just changes the game state for the round and after that it is no luck (and the only “bad” rolls are when you try for a re-roll and get the same number again).

That being said, I sold it as its complex and teaching it is a pain. If you have a regular group who play a few times it is a good buy.

A fantastic dice selection game

I highly recommend this game, check out YouTube playthroughs. The new version of this game is 1-4 players.

Interesting Mechanics

Interesting Mechanics but too complex for pick up for a casual board game night.
