Last Light is a fast-paced 4x game with 3D planets and a rotating board in which players playing asymmetrical alien factions simultaneously gather light right before the heat death of the universe.

Each turn, players select an action card, then all players take their actions simultaneously, exploring planets, mining for resources, gaining new technologies, and commanding fleets all while racing to the center of a rotating board to the last known white dwarf star to gather light for their civilization to survive.

The first player to gather 20 light has what they need to overcome their rivals and lay claim to the last light in the universe and win!

The 6 N's of this 4 X game

Last light is a fun 4 EX game that did deliver in a short period of time (2 hours) with 7 people. The setup took 25 minutes as did the teach. The game was fun for all and easier to play than learn. I purchased the game specifically to play at my annual gaming group summit, and it delivered what we hoped for: 1. An engaging experience. (Nobody was bored and in it to win it) 2. An entertaining experience (the battles were short, and the nuances of tech integration and player control of battle order were great nuances). 3. An engrossing game (we wanted to crack the nut, figure out how to maximize our starting alien group, and determine how we would get enough light to win). When all was said and done everybody liked the game at varying degrees, with the average being 7.3 out of 10. For me Last Light was good and not great, and isn't a game I will bring to the table again. So why is that? 1. I didn't find it to be endearing enough. If I want a smack down game, there are others I'd turn to with a similar tone. 2. I wasn't enchanted by it. Everything was good, but nothing was great. The time element for game play is nice, but it is offset in a negative way by long setup and cleanup times. I will say, I expect this game to be more enjoyable with 4. In summary, Last Light is a good 7 player game, and it is probably better with 4.
